Welcome to Words.
I have always loved words, and have been writing books since I knew how to hold a pencil. Maybe you've heard of some of my earlier works:
The Adventures of Carly P. and Andrea B. (circa 1st Grade)
or skipping forward a few years, maybe you're familiar with the very cool, very relatable young-adult series I wrote:
Ferrets in the Freeze (circa 3rd Grade, during the era of Carly's ferret obsession)
and who can forget, the time in high school that I read through the Bible cover-to-cover in a year, blogging to summarize the reading every day for 365 days:
Devotions by Carly (which, upon further reflection, most definitely sounds like the name of an off-brand perfume in the bargain section of Kohl's.)
I am now realizing how much free time I had as a young person, and older me is growing more jealous by the second.
In all seriousness, words and writing seem to follow me everywhere I go. Some may call it a passion, an obsession, a gift, or a coincidence. I call it a calling - something I think God Himself has put on my heart to share with the world. And since my other vocations are encouragement and teaching, it only makes sense for me to write a real book - a collection of encouraging daily devotionals that center around the beautiful little things that started it all: words.
In my day job, I specialize in second language acquisition for a bilingual immersion school. Language, translation, and learning continue to be at the forefront of my life and have turned me into quite the "word nerd" over the years - I get so hype to learn the original meaning of words, because sometimes when you learn something about a word's etymology, it can completely shift the way you think about things. It may just even change your perspective about who you are, who God is, and what you're called to do on this big blue planet.
So buckle up, friends. I'm about to share some of my most favorite word revelations with you, and my prayer is that you find them as interesting and encouraging as I do.
